Why fly it

The numbers don't lie.

Independent testing shows what changes when the sprayer leaves the ground. Every number below comes from a university or an on-farm study, and every one is linked so you can read it yourself.

Crop loss

A ground rig runs over the crop it came to protect.

Precision Planting measured it in 2024. A ground rig costs about 6 percent of the crop per acre.

Six percent applied to yields around here, at $4 corn. Missouri averaged 183 bushels in 2024 and Kansas 129.

Soil and erosion

The tracks are gone by fall. The compaction is there for a decade.

Drive a field wet and the crop on that ground comes in about 15 percent short the first year. Ten years later it is still 3 percent short, and freeze-thaw does not undo it.

Penn State put the yield loss on compacted ground at 15 percent the first year and 3 percent ten years on. The decade total is our own arithmetic between those two points, held to the low side at about three quarters of one year's crop. Corn at $4.

  • Subsoil compaction does not freeze-thaw out, on any soil type
  • Water soaking in drops from 1.06 in/hr to 0.25, so the rest runs off down the tracks

Drone against aircraft

Eight trials against a plane or a helicopter.

Same product, same rate, same timing, same gallons an acre, with only the aircraft changing: the drone finished ahead in six of the eight trials and behind in two.

The camera sees it before you do.

A multispectral camera reads near infrared and red edge, so stress shows up well before the crop looks bad from the pickup.

The flight

The rate changes while it flies.

How we work

Who supplies the chemical or seed?

You do, normally. If it is easier for us to source it, we buy it and pass it through with no markup.

How much notice do you need?

Two weeks is ideal for a season plan with the mix and the field locations. Call anyway if it is shorter, because running several crews means there is usually something we can move.

Is there a minimum?

Fifty acres per plot, and a plot is whatever we can cover from one trailer setup, so two thirty acre pieces either side of a road count as one sixty.

How is acreage counted?

Across the season rather than per visit, so the rate reflects everything you have us fly rather than any one job.

How do I know it went on properly?

Coverage maps for every field as standard, with a multispectral scan alongside if you want to see the result too.

What does it cost?

Per acre on a sliding scale set by your season total and whether you bundle mapping. Send the acreage and crop below for a written rate.
